The Mercedes-Benz GLC was built for the suburbs. From our test car’s beige paint to its mass-market 4-cylinder engine, this machine was built to sell, not to excite. Of course, that doesn’t mean Mercedes won’t sell you an exciting GLC—you just have to pay up for an AMG version. In 300 trim, the 4-cylinder engine makes 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Bump up to an AMG GLC 43 and those numbers grow to 385 hp and 384 lb-ft, courtesy of a twin-turbo V6. Want more? The AMG GLC 63’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 will deliver 469 hp and 479 lb-ft.

Inside, the GLC looks phenomenal—just don’t spec it with a black headliner and dark interior materials. Go lighter, and the upholstery, dash, and headliner will really sing. The new MBUX infotainment system is a huge improvement over COMAND, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Fuel economy ranges from 21 mpg city, 28 highway, 24 combined with the 4-cylinder, down to 16/22/18 for the 63-series. The AMG GLC 43 hasn’t been rated yet by the EPA.
