・大沢地区・吉野沢の被害状況を確認。まだまだボランティアが必要な状況。
・幡ヶ谷再生大学の浅井さん(福岡在住、奥様のご実家が酒田で帰省中)と一緒に、大沢地区内の被害状況を(北青沢、三保六を中心に)見て回りました。

・酒田市の移住交流施設「TOCHiTO」在住・藤田篤子さん、酒田在住・藤井博喜さん、大沢地区 中台出身・山沢真奈美さんが大沢地区にいらっしゃり、大沢地区内の被害状況を確認。二タ子から泥沢への道路の崩壊、北青沢の土砂堆積による被害状況、北青沢・川上神社の鳥居や屋根まで積もった土砂や流木など。若神子の神社は、鳥居の下のあたりに石などが積み重なっていたが、鉄門海の石碑は巨木に守られて無事。神社の建物も無事でした。
・水道の復旧が順次進んでおり、大沢地区内の大半の集落で復旧してきている状況。

・大沢地区・吉野沢の被災された家で、大沢地区・古升田出身の芸工大4年・川俣椋嵩(りょうしゅう) くんと一緒に支援作業。
・大沢地区・吉野沢の相蘇 弥さん家にて、山形大学農学部の井上実結さんや4名の皆様と一緒に支援作業。
・大沢地区・北青沢の小屋渕周辺では重機にて道路の土砂撤去作業がスタート。これまで各家でなかなか進まなかった作業も、ようやくこれから進んでくるのでは。

This video compilation was shot on August 13-15, 2024, and documents the aftermath of the heavy rain disaster that struck Osawa district in the Yawata area of Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture on the morning of July 25.

August 13, 2024
•Assessment of damage in Kichinosawa, Osawa district: It was confirmed that the area still requires a significant amount of volunteer support.
•Together with Asai-san (currently residing in Fukuoka but visiting her in-laws in Sakata CIty), they toured the damaged areas within the Osawa district, focusing on Kita-Aozawa and Saburoku.
August 14, 2024
•Atsuko Fujita (resident of Sakata City's immigration and exchange facility "TOCHiTO"), Hiroki Fujii (resident of Sakata), and Manami Yamazawa (originally from Nakadai, Osawa district) visited the Osawa district to assess the damage. They observed the collapsed road from Futago to Dorosawa, the severe damage caused by mudslides in Kita-Aozawa, and the accumulation of mud and driftwood on the torii gate and roof of Kawakami Shrine in Kita-Aozawa. At Wamiko Shrine, stones were piled up near the torii gate, but the Tetumonkai stone monument was safely protected by a large tree. The shrine building was also undamaged.
•Water supply restoration has been progressing sequentially, and most settlements within the Osawa district have regained water service.
August 15, 2024
•Volunteer activities: Ryoushu Kawamata, a fourth-year art university student from Furumazuda in the Osawa district, assisted with support activities at a damaged home in Kichinosawa, Osawa district.
•Volunteer activities: Miku Inoue from the Department of Agriculture at Yamagata University and four others joined in support activities at the home of Mr. Wataru Aiso in Kichonosawa, Osawa district.
•Road clearance: Heavy machinery began clearing mud from the road around Koyabuchi in Kita-Aozawa. This marks the start of large-scale cleanup efforts that had previously been difficult to carry out at individual homes.

About Sakta City, Yamagata Prefecture:
Sakata City (酒田市) is a gorgeous harbour town in Yamagata, Northeast Japan, known as Tohoku region. Located along the coast of the Sea of Japan, it’s only an hour away from Tokyo by plane, and it’s rich in nature, culture and tradition. The city has Mount Chōkai (鳥海山) on its northern border. Shonai Heiya (庄内平野) is renowned as a prime rice production area. Blessed with fertile plains and pristine waters from the surrounding mountains, this expansive alluvial plain provides an ideal environment for cultivating high-quality rice such as Tsuyahime (つや姫), Yukiwakamaru(雪若丸) . Because of availability of high-quality rice, the area is also known as top tier’s Japanese sake production.
Shonai Heiya is also known as snowbird resting areas. Swans from Siberia stay in the region during the winter seasons and back to Siberia in spring. The swans were feeding on waste rice grains left over after the harvest, as well as on insects and small invertebrates that inhabit rice fields.
Sakata City is located by the Mogami River, which is regarded as one of the three most rapid rivers of Japan. The river rises from southern Yamagata Prefecture, flows to the north, and turns west then flows into the Sea of Japan at Sakata City. The Mogami River in Japanese poetry, with the influential 17th-century poet Matsuo Bashō (松尾芭蕉) composing several haiku regarding the river during his travels.
