Since the new airport is located around 40 km away from Siem Reap city, it’s important to plan ahead and find affordable transportation options that won’t break the bank.

I’ll walk you through all the available choices — from local buses and shared vans to private taxis and the newly introduced airport shuttle — and of course, I’ll reveal the most budget-friendly option I found during my trip.

A bit of history:
The new Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport officially opened in October 2023, replacing the old airport located near the Angkor Wat temples. The move was made to reduce air traffic and noise pollution near the historic UNESCO World Heritage site, while providing a larger, more modern airport to support Cambodia’s growing tourism. It’s now the largest airport in the country, built with Chinese investment under a long-term concession.
