1950's CARD CLUB FOOD WAR 💰💰💰
During the 1950's Ernie Primm and rival card club owner Harry Klassman engaged in an ongoing battle for the patronage of poker players everywhere. This rivalry eventually resulted in, what the press called the "FOOD WARS" - a battle waged by slashing prices of meals served at their card clubs down to a single dime. Eager diners lined up, often 100 deep, to take advantage of the greatest restaurant bargain prices since the Great Depression era. When local Gardena eateries complained to city hall that they were being priced out of business by this stunt, Mayor Adams Bolton finally took action, threatening to seize the license of any card club operator who refused to resume normal meal pricing immediately.
