Hi I'm Steve Jones from SQL Server Central and I've got a SQL Prompt tip for you brought to you by Redgate software. Some of you that use SQL Prompt may not realize you can do this.

Often you'll use a select * to get some table details and you know make a quick query on the table and I can do that here, and I realized hey I don't really want all these columns now. Instead of doing the * I can certainly expand the tab but if I know that there are certain columns that I want.

You'll see you as soon as I type an O I get a list of columns at the top, as well as other SQL commands that match an O. But the bottom you'll see there's a column picker and then there's a little tip that says control left arrow, so if I hit ctrl left arrow I can actually just see that really what I want to do is go to the column picker and I can pick certain ones and as it says here space to select columns and tab to insert columns. So i'll just hit tab and I've got all these columns inserted. Now when I run my query I only get what I want.
