Heavy rainfall is on the way for the coastal areas and nearby regions of South Africa today from Port Alfred to Richard’s Bay. This could lead to flooding on roads and in communities, causing damage to infrastructure and mud-based homes. Expect significant traffic disruptions as major roads may be flooded or closed. Severe thunderstorms are anticipated across many regions, including KwaZulu Natal Province, the southern-western areas of Mpumalanga Province, Gauteng Province, as well as the Free State Province, North West Province, and the extreme north-eastern parts of Northern Cape Province. These storms could result in significant damage to structures from hail and wind, affecting infrastructure, settlements (both formal and informal), property, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock. Heavy rainfall is causing localised flooding in various areas, impacting settlements and roads and resulting in damage to property and infrastructure in the Eastern Cape Province.
