Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Durabilt Hammerlock Coupling Link for 5/8 inch size chain, has an 18,100 pound working load limit. Now, coupling links will compromise of these two U-shaped metal pieces, which are connected with a pin and a retaining collar, and it allows them to move and rotate easily. This will make it exceptionally versatile and useful for applications where movement is necessary, and a coupling link will let you attach your safety chains to your hitch quickly and easily, creates a more accessible attachment point than the connection loops that are on your hitch. Usually, the ones that are on your factory hitch are very small, and it does doesn't give you enough room to connect your safety chains to, this you can run through the loops on there, and then hook your safety chain to this. These can also be used in overhead lifting applications.

Now, we mentioned the size, the application for this is a 5/8 inch thick chain or slip hooks with a 5/8 inch throat opening. When they say 5/8 inch, what they're pretty much talking about is the diameter right here, and it is stamped on the parts to let you know that. This does also come in other sizes, we offer it in a 5/16 size, which is a 4,500 pound working load limit, a 3/8 inch size, which is a 7,100 pound working load limit, and a 1/2 inch size, which is a 12,000 pound working load limit. All of those we do so separately, and they are listed on this product page as a related product. And when we talk about this being a hammerlock design, what it basically means is when you line these up, the two pieces, your pin is made to go all the way through just like that.

But the way it holds it in place, what you do is you take this smaller diameter retaining collar that goes in the middle, and then you start your pin through there, and then what you need to do is take a hammer and tap that through there, so it goes through this retaining collar and through the other side, and that'll hold it into place and still allow a movement of both pieces. Now, because when you do that, to remove this, if you do need to remove the two pieces, you do need a hammer and a punch to be able to remove that from this retaining collar. These parts are a tempered Grade 80 steel construction, you can see they have a nice corrosion resistant red powder coat coating on them. Again, the specs on this, the safe working load limit is 18,100 pounds, and it is for a quantity of one coupling link.
