An exploration of the world of interviews from the perspective of the interviewer/employer.
What is the success rate of the interview process in getting the correct employee for the job that you want filled? (2% better than 50/50 chance) Do you have a clear idea if the person that you want to recruit? What influences do you bring to the party that will affect your decision and can you ignore those processes? Do we ask the right questions; are there right questions? Is it a personality contest; do we really only use the people we like or find attractive?

Any competent person can research a company, produce a credible CV, pass a telephone interview. They can get themselves to an interview stage. A proficient person can also learn the techniques to make themselves agreeable. NLP methods of mirroring, modelling controlling body and verbal language are available.

Will they be the best candidate for your company?

An exploration of the first processes, interview day and what influences are confusing the decision. Follow the advice and you may just become the company hero. Peter was born and educated in Portsmouth, Hampshire. He joined the Hampshire Constabulary as a Police officer from school, where he remained until his retirement 30 years later. He gained experience in investigations, interviewing and supervision as a detective and supervisor in one of the busiest Cities in the south.

On leaving the force, he read for an Honours degree at Southampton Solent University in Fine Art Valuation. On completing, Peter set off for an independent 6 months trip around the world with his wife. On his return he joined the Civil Service, gaining further skills in labour market intelligence and customer service.

He is a married man with two adult children and a Grandson and lives in Hampshire. He is an avid walker and is a Walk Leader for a British company specialising in British and European walking. His other hobbies are antique glass collecting and Pilates. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
