Popular Monster by Falling In Reverse Full Band FC

Once upon a time, there was an up-and-coming emo band known as Escape The Fate, who splashed onto the scene in the mid-2000s with a little album called Dying Is Your Latest Fashion. Shortly afterward, a 23-year-old Ronnie Radke would inadvertently make dying someone's latest fashion after being involved in a gang fight. Charged with murder but convicted of second degree battery, his bandmates would kick him out and continue on with Craig Mabbitt to minor but continued success to this day.

In 2019, Radke and his new project Falling In Reverse would write a song called Popular Monster, whereupon he would discuss "the story of a hero who has been falsely accused and destroyed by society. Show what happens when you've been pushed too hard. You become exactly what they say, you are exactly what they want you to be, a monster." He would also attest to its songwriting being inspired by the previous year's Joker movie, a film that blurred the lines of audience retention as the reception was split between viewers recognising Arthur Fleck's brutality brought on by a debased society that underfunds healthcare and social services, and viewers who bought into Fleck's chaotic streak and appreciated his underdog story without analysing the violence he inflicted upon others in the process, both directly and indirectly. It is apparent Radke falls into the latter camp, and in doing so, seeks to intentionally undermine his own wrongdoings in an effort to avoid culpability, backed by other recent Falling In Reverse efforts that are bent on either playing up his bad boy image as a prolonged joke or boasting about his success as something to be jealous of, as if to vindicate his past transgressions as necessary evils to achieve his level of success.

And then in 2020, Popular Monster becomes one of the biggest rock hits of the year! For fuck's sake, it beat all of Bring Me The Horizon's songs! I don't know how anyone can dispute that this is one of the worst songs ever made lmao
