This year marks the 75th anniversary of VE day, the day world war 2 ended. Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May 8 1945 marked the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender by Britain and its Allies.

The British Legion are currently running a ballot for 750 veterans, evacuees and those from the home front to come to London on an all-expenses-paid trip for the national commemorations over the VE bank holiday weekend and they're encouraging it to get people to sign up like they did for D-Day 75, just on dry land this time!

Britain's Got Talent winner Colin Thackery and royal photographer Arthur Edwards were both child evacuees in the war.
