Renewable Energy Resources are those that are constant and will not run out in the future. These energy resources can come from the sun, wind, water, and Earth.

Solar energy comes from the sun.

Solar panels are usually used in an active way to obtain and store energy from sunlight and convert it into electricity. Solar energy is clean and will never run out but it isn’t as efficient during cloudy days and it can’t work at night.

Wind energy is harnessed by the power of wind!

Wind farms of massive windmills generate energy and convert it into electricity. Although this is an environmentally friendly method of creating electricity, not all areas have strong winds to generate electricity. Plus, wind speeds aren’t constant. Some regions are better suited for wind farms than others.

Hydroelectric energy is electricity generated by running water.

Dams are built to retain water and that water is used to power turbines to create electricity.

Another form of renewable energy is generated by the Earth.

Erupting volcanoes and geysers release heat energy, or geothermal energy. Large reservoirs of groundwater are heated by magma causing steam. Geothermal power plants collect this steam to turn turbines creating electricity. Geothermal energy is common in Hawaii and parts of the Western United States.

Overall, most energy in the United States comes from non-renewable energy resources but there are promising new renewable technologies that will help increase the use of clean energy over those that harm our environment!
