The Final Group Task (FGT) is the concluding outdoor task conducted by the Group Testing Officer (GTO) in the SSB interview process. It serves as the last opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their true officer-like qualities (OLQs) in a group environment. Unlike earlier tasks, the FGT is comparatively simpler in structure, but its importance lies in observing the consistency of behaviour displayed by candidates throughout the entire GTO series.

In the FGT, the group is expected to plan, coordinate, and execute the task collectively within the given rules and time. The GTO closely observes how candidates interact with each other under minimal guidance. An ideal behavioural pattern reflects natural leadership, cooperation, and responsibility rather than aggression or dominance. Candidates should actively participate by offering logical ideas, supporting team members, and helping in the execution without trying to control the group unnecessarily.

Effective communication is crucial during the Final Group Task. Candidates must express their ideas clearly, listen to others with respect, and encourage quieter members to participate. Team spirit, mutual trust, and adaptability are key traits assessed during this task. The ability to accept others’ suggestions and modify one’s own plan for the benefit of the group reflects flexibility and social adjustment—essential qualities of a future officer.

The GTO also evaluates physical and mental stamina, initiative, and problem-solving ability during the FGT. Candidates should remain calm, motivated, and focused till the end, showing enthusiasm and commitment despite fatigue. Helping others, sharing resources, and maintaining discipline reflect a positive attitude and sense of responsibility.

Since the FGT is the final observation point, any artificial or over-enthusiastic behaviour can be easily identified. Therefore, candidates should be natural, balanced, and task-oriented. A composed, cooperative, and confident approach during the Final Group Task leaves a strong final impression and reinforces the candidate’s suitability for leadership roles in the Indian Armed Forces.
