Like most people, I had my own ideas about what acting was — until I trained in The Science of Acting and encountered a simple diagram that completely changed how I understood myself, other people, and therefore characters. This is the Pride–Shame Model, one of the very first insights that transformed my thinking.

In this video, I explain the diagram step by step, and show how it reveals the structure of consciousness: the thoughts we show the world, and the thoughts we hide — and how this affects behaviour, character creation, and acting.
