Once the negatives: problems, bad habits, fears and triggers are dealt with and the foundation is set, actual training & conditioning the dog is the easy part. The big challenges happen during the education & training of the humans involved. This is especially true when training Performance and/or Service Dogs.

The habits and lifestyle of the dog, when it came, is the perfect reflection of the lifestyle it lived before it arrived. And if the dog is trained but the handling & lifestyle remains the same, the dog will revert back to the original "normal" within a day or so.

Because I am consistent and the owner is not, I most often incorporate one or more transition handlers. That allows me to observe just how dedicated the dog is to what I've taught him. Further, the dog learns to adapt his performance according to each different handler rather than refuse to work for a less consistent handler.

I often flip from one personality to another, using two different names, the dog is easily able to do the same.
