Tonight we're checking out the demo for Relooted by Nyamakop, an indie studio based in South Africa. This Africanfuturist heist game has you breaking into Western collections and reclaiming pieces of African history and heritage after normal diplomatic efforts get subverted. There is no release date listed on the Steam page, but check out the demo if this looks like your cup of tea.

I play a lot of Next Fest demos and watch even more trailers, but few had me wanting to play a game immediately the way Relooted did, so I am very excited to finally try this for myself. The gist is that in the late 21st century, negotiators reached a treaty promising the repatriation of African artifacts from Western museums. The treaty requires the return of looted artifacts in public displays, so the museums get sneaky and put those artifacts in private displays (a.k.a. "maintenance") so they don't have to comply. That's where our team comes in. Nomali, our main character, heads a ragtag group with the goal of reclaiming these pieces of Africa's heritage by hook or by crook -- primarily the latter. The demo is fairly brisk, giving a quick rundown of the story, a mechanics tutorial, a base tour with a few character moments, and one full-size mission as a taster for the game to come. I like what I see so far, particularly in the full mission as it gives you multiple ways to solve the puzzle instead of putting you on rails. It took me longer than it probably should've to work it out thanks to forgetting what a couple buttons did, but that's on me as much as the game. I'm definitely excited to see more from Nyamakop and Relooted, so this one's staying on the wish list. From the September 22, 2025, stream at   / trooperbari  .
