Parliament has witnessed many heated debates, dramatic walkouts, and political theatrics in South Africa’s democratic history, but nothing could have prepared the nation for the shockwaves that ripped through the National Assembly when ANC veteran Bheki Mkhwanazi stood up and dropped what is already being described as “the political bombshell of the decade.”
On what was meant to be a routine sitting, Mkhwanazi stunned lawmakers by producing a thick dossier of documents that he claimed expose EFF leader Julius Malema as a man who has been living a double life — one as the fiery revolutionary speaking for the poor, and another as a wealthy power-broker quietly feeding from questionable financial channels.
The Moment Parliament Stood Still
The atmosphere in the chamber shifted instantly when Mkhwanazi, holding a stack of papers, began his statement with the chilling words:
“South Africans deserve to know the truth. For too long we have been deceived by those who shout about revolution while secretly enriching themselves. Today, I bring proof that Julius Malema has betrayed his supporters, his party, and the nation.”
Gasps echoed across the floor. Opposition MPs craned their necks to catch a glimpse of the documents, while EFF members shouted back in anger. Malema himself shot up from his seat, visibly shaken, his usual composure replaced by a defensive fury.
“That is a lie! A complete fabrication! You are a hired gun of the ANC!” Malema shouted, pointing directly at Mkhwanazi.

Luxury Purchases that include high-end vehicles, designer clothing, and foreign real estate — expenditures that would be impossible to reconcile with Malema’s declared income.
Foreign Ties to business figures in Zimbabwe and Dubai, raising questions about possible cross-border political financing.
“This is not mere speculation,” Mkhwanazi declared, slamming the documents on his desk. “This is proof. Proof that Julius Malema has built his empire not on revolution, but on deception.”
The scene that followed was nothing short of pandemonium. EFF MPs rose in unison, chanting “Lies! Lies! Lies!” and attempting to drown out Mkhwanazi’s voice. Some even advanced toward his bench before being restrained by parliamentary security.
The DA benches erupted in calls for the Speaker to table the documents immediately, with John Steenhuisen shouting: “South Africans must see this now — the hypocrisy has been laid bare!”

Outside Parliament, Julius Malema wasted no time addressing the media. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with EFF leadership, his tone was defiant yet shaken.
“This is nothing but a desperate attempt by the ANC to destroy the EFF. They know we are gaining ground, they know the people are with us, so they manufacture lies. I have no offshore accounts, no secret millions, and no reason to fear. This is an orchestrated smear campaign designed to silence us.”
However, Malema stopped short of offering concrete evidence to counter Mkhwanazi’s claims, instead insisting that the documents were “doctored” and “planted by intelligence operatives loyal to the ANC.”
EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu echoed his leader, accusing Mkhwanazi of being a “disgraceful traitor” who was “bought and paid for” to weaken the red berets.
The ANC: Senior leaders seized on the opportunity, with Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula calling the revelations “the final nail in the coffin of populist politics built on lies.”
The DA: Leader John Steenhuisen demanded that the dossier be handed over to law enforcement immediately, adding: “If true, this is not just hypocrisy — it is criminal.”
