Overview
Pulse, a compact crossover designed for South American markets, including our first look at the interior. Fiat's newest SUV, named with the help of a contest, will hit the market in September this year in Brazil.

The Pulse takes a different approach to the European 500X incorporating the same modern design language as the Fiat Strada pickup, although this one gets more chrome above the headlights and grille. It also comes with plastic body panels and a two-tone exterior. Mind you, the model in the picture is probably the top variant with LED lighting and large diameter alloy wheels.

Fiat Pulse 2022 in a new exterior color that looks familiar with Navy Blue. The front is where the SUV has most of the good stuff. Some of the key features include a hexagonal front grille with rounded corners, a large FIAT logo in the center, wraparound LED headlights with LED DRLs and uniquely shaped fog lamp housings. The striking bumper with horizontal slats is another standout feature that immediately grabs your attention.

The SUV has thick body cladding all around and has prominent lettering on the sides. At the rear, the Fiat Pulse has a sculpted tailgate, trendy taillights and a thick bumper with a sporty dual-exhaust setup. The SUV is expected to be offered in both single-tone and dual-tone options. The latter will likely come with mid-to-high-end spec variants.

On the surface, the Fiat Pulse appears to have some of the same features as the Argo. However, it uses a completely new modular platform that the company internally calls MLA. The new platform is expected to score high in the NCAP Latin crash tests. It will also meet the requirements of the ROTA 2030 standard. ROTA 2030 is a new set of automotive standards in Brazil, covering various aspects such as car safety and engine efficiency.

The Pulse is based on the new MLA platform, which differs from the MP1 that underpins the similarly sized Argo hatchback and Chronos sedan, both of which are only available in South America.

The dashboard looks pretty basic, but it has everything you'd expect from a modern car. The 7-inch digital instrument cluster - already in the Fiat Toro - is combined with a 10.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system at the top of the center console. There is also a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated buttons and physical buttons for automatic air conditioning.

Base variants of the Pulse are expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre Firefly naturally aspirated petrol engine. It supports a flexible fuel system and is capable of generating 101 horsepower when running on gasoline. Power output increases to 109 hp when used with ethanol.

The Pulse will also receive a hybrid powertrain that includes a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 12V electric motor. This powertrain produces 128 hp with gasoline and 131 hp with ethanol. A third engine option could be a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 125hp and 190Nm. A CVT gearbox option will be available with all engine options. The 5-speed manual transmission option will only be available with the 1.3-litre engine.

In international markets, the Fiat Pulse will primarily compete with the Honda WR-V and Volkswagen Nivus. Other competitors include lower-end variants of the Volkswagen T-Cross and Hyundai Creta. Pulse is unlikely to hit the Indian market, as parent company Stellantis is currently focusing on the Jeep and Citroen brands in the Indian market.
