Here are some ideas for a mandolin break to replace the fiddle melody from "One Moonlight Night" by Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers. I've put in some two-finger chords to help increase the shimmer of the tremolo.
Pay attention to your pick direction, and make sure you hit each new note with a down stroke to keep things clear...but at the same time, think about maintaining the continuity of the tremolo through the melody. They lyrical quality of the fiddle (one might almost say "violin" on the original recording leads me to play this in a very sentimental, expressive way, and keeping a sustained sound is one way to do that with mandolin tremolo.
