Why is Saint George celebrated in Barcelona? | Sant Jordi

Описание к видео Why is Saint George celebrated in Barcelona? | Sant Jordi

April 23rd, Saint George's Day, known in Catalonia as La Diada de Sant Jordi, is my favorite day of the year. The streets are filled with books, roses, and Catalan flags. Barcelona is buzzing.
It's the best time to be in Barcelona and is almost like a Catalan Valentine's Day where, traditionally, women get roses and men get books. Over 1.5 million copies can be sold in one day alone and people are all around to take in the festivities.

What is the legend of Saint George and why are books and roses given out every April 23rd in Barcelona?
