This black and white film is one of a 1950-1960 television series Industry on Parade, produced by the National Association of Manufacturers. It features four segments. “Illinois”. Late 1940s cars drive through downtown Argo. Children play at a public swimming pool. Inside a factory, corn is poured out onto a shaking conveyer belt. Large equipment dials fill a wall. The processing vats are shown. Corn oil is extracted. The bottled corn oil moves through a complex spinning conveyer system. The bottles are capped and labels applied by machine. A worker examines a starch machine. The starch is boxed for laundry use and moves through the conveyer system. Cerelose Dextrose (corn sugar) is packaged into large bags (:13-3:54). The advertisement shows the Statue of Liberty, the New York skyline, churches, casting a vote, and a man getting fitted for a suit (3:55-4:35). “Massachusetts”. A father gives each of his three daughters 1950s Vogue Ginny dolls. The girls look through catalog advertisements of the dolls. Founder Jenny Graves is shown in a Vogue doll showroom in Somerville. She looks at a Ginny suitcase full of clothing. Women sew the doll outfits on 1950s Singer sewing machines. The workers apply glue and then wigs to Ginny’s heads. The Vogue Ginnette dolls are dressed by workers. Vogue doll boxes are loaded. Ginny dolls in dressed outfits are put into their 1955-1956 store boxes. Little girls play with their Ginny accessories, including a bed, changing table, and swing set (4:36-7:26). “Washington”. An artist for the American Sign and Indicator Corporation in Spokane draws conceptional art for an electronic time and temperature sign. The neon tubing is bent into the sign shape. The bulbs are wired on an electronic panel. The time display is governed by a synchronous motor. A device measures the temperature to send to the display. The final sign is displayed outside the Portland Federal Savings building (7:27-9:36). The advertisement shows alarm clocks being manufactured (9:37-10:15). “Texas”. A Helix Air Transport Bell 47 helicopter is custom remodeled at Horton & Horton in Fort Worth. The doors are removed and a sheet of insulation is glued into the ceiling. A factory worker cuts fabric for the interior door. Cow hide is cut to put on the new foam seat cushion. An ash tray is installed under the instrument panel. Dorothy Horton inspects the final finish-out. The owner and pilot get in and the helicopter takes off (10:16-13:00).
