The vocals were processed through TC-Helicon's Voicetone Synth (hence the competition). I used moderate pitch correction to get that familiar sound, then I also used a couple of the filter effects to give a faraway sound to the chorus (radio) and the shout-out "I shall drive my chariot..." (megaphone). I sampled several parts of the song - bass lick, highhat, vocals, guitar riffs, and a string riff. I put some of the sampled riffs through a vocoder-type program, drawing out only the rhythm for use with new notes. I ran samples of rain water through the same program to get that weird pad sound in the opening verse. The whole song is up a minor third.

I'm not a big fan of putting myself in videos online, so I decided to use the low quality video of me singing in silhouette to complement the lo-fi feeling of the mix. The Voicetone synth was really able to give a sound to my voice that helped it fit in with the mix (well, at least I thought so.) With the simple video I tried to convey a surprising interpretation of the lyrics using dropped in photo images. I imagined the words as being the thoughts of an old woman who'd lost the love of her life, and she is imagining seeing him again in the afterlife.
