Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez was born in Madrid, Spain, and he has also lived, studied and worked in Switzerland, France and Spain. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Pablo is now based in London, where he works as a musician, playing the historical cello (in all its forms). He performs at numerous concerts during the year in the UK and abroad. Pablo has primarily played in chamber music or orchestral ensembles during his career, although he also frequently performs solo recitals. As a historian, he has published articles on cultural history of music, historical performance and musicology; he also teaches and gives seminars, talks and lectures in all these fields.

Today Pablo chose to play a period-style of cello - referred to as a "piccolo" due to its being smaller than a standard-sized cello. The instrument is held between the knees, not rested on a supporting spike - and has five strings as against the normal four. Pablo admitted that this makes it more technically difficult to play, but the resulting sound is rich and beautiful to hear - especially so in Pablo's expert hands, and playing a delightful set of pieces from J.S.Bach's Cello Suites as he chose for us today.

Thank you Pablo, for giving up your time to play so beautifully for the patients, staff and visitors to the hospital. We look forward to welcoming you back to play for us again in the future.
