While addressing the 83rd All-India Presiding Officers Conference in Jaipur, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar raised the issue of the powers of the judiciary vis-a-vis the legislature. He criticized the Supreme Court’s 1973 judgment in the Kesavananda Bharati case which had propounded the idea of the Basic Structure, upheld judicial review, and limited the Parliament’s power under Article 368 to amend the Constitution.
