The researchers of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy (FGAG) of the University of Split are developing a methodology for assessing the exposure of Croatian territory to single and multi-hazard events in coastal and urban areas.
The single-hazard research addresses the development of a methodology to determine the vulnerability indexes of buildings to
earthquakes
floods induced by the increase of sea level due to climate changes
floods induced by the extreme sea waves
The first step is to collect data to determine the single-risk exposure of buildings and make single-hazard exposure maps.
The second step is the development of a methodology for assessment of multi-hazards exposure in coastal and urban areas.
For the multi-hazard analysis, the Spatial Multi-Criteria Analysis will be used, a technique considering different aspects to take the best decision.
Spatial Multi-Criteria Analysis is key to multi-hazard decision-making because it allows identification and comparison of different alternatives based on multiple objectives and criteria.
The methodologies developed within PMO-GATE project will be applied to the Croatian test site, particularly the area of Kaštel Kambelovac, at the north side of Kastela Bay.
The results of single and multi-risk analysis will be made available to the public through an interactive Web-map.
Maps of the spatial distribution of the critical zones most prone to coastal flood, extreme sea waves and seismic risk will be essential to preventing, managing and overcoming natural-hazard risks.
