Cremo Shave Guide: How to Shave Your Head with a Razor

Looking for info on how to shave your own head? You’ve come to the right place!

Before you start, make sure you properly prepare by having the right tools and clipping your hair to a low grade. For product, we recommend Cremo’s Shaving Cream and Post Shave Balm, along with a small towel and cartridge razor.

Step 1

Run water until hot and apply liberally to your hair and scalp, as the hot water will help open up hair follicles and make them easier to cut.

Alternatively, you can also apply a hot towel to your head to achieve the same effect. However, no matter which method you decide to use, remember to take your time, as this will ultimately help you achieve a better shave.
Step 2

Take your shaving cream and work thoroughly into your hair. Shaving cream acts as a great lubricant and cushions the blade, allowing for lower drag and fewer snags.

Pro-tip: Apply more shaving cream than you would normally when shaving your face, as this will help the blade follow the natural curve of your skull.

Step 3

Starting with the front of your head, take your razor and shave with the grain, working in small but assured strokes. Let the razor do the work and do not press too hard, else you might end up cutting or hurting yourself. Use a fresh blade to minimize razor burn.

After every couple of strokes, you’ll want to wash the razor. This removes hair and shaving cream and keeps the blade free to do its work.

Carry on until you’ve finished the front of your head.

Step 4

Next, shave the sides of your head. Again, work from top to bottom, shaving with the grain.
Careful you don’t get too close to your ears.

Step 5

Finally, we come to the back of the head, which is the most difficult part. If you’re feeling less confident, make sure to add a bit more shaving cream or water and feel with your hands that everything part of your scalp is covered.

Work the razor blade from top to bottom in confident strokes. To help the blade glide, try tightening the back of the neck to allow a flatter surface area to cut. Use another mirror to make sure you’re shaving the right spots and the shaving cream is properly applied.

Step 6

Take some hot water and rinse your head of shaving cream. Use your hands in this process to search for parts of the head you may have missed on the first pass.

Step 7

Repeat steps 2 to 6. Re-lather some shaving cream to the head, and pay particular attention to the parts of the head you missed or the parts which are harder to shave than the rest.

You’re going to shave your head again, this time though, we’re going to go against the grain of your hair growth. This gives us a really close shave and is one of the best ways to shave your head.

This time the blade should glide across the skin as you have already removed a lot of hair already. Don’t get overconfident and careless; always move the blade cautiously yet confidently.

On this pass, make sure you remove any hair lingering around your ear.

Step 8

Rinse the shaving cream from your head with warm water. Massage in and check all over your head for any missed areas. If you have missed a spot, re-lather the shaving cream again and go for another pass.

Step 9

Add a Post Shave Balm to add some moisture back into the shaven skin. Work in thoroughly to get deep moisturization.

Step 10

Admire your beautifully shaven head.
