The first aim of the cross examination is the extraction of the remaining circumstances of the testimony given by the witness in his examination-in –chief. Unless you master the facts, you will never succeed in cross examination. The very art of winning a case consists in mastering the facts. Your whole aim and object should be to see that you see the picture as a whole. Your client present one side of the story. It is you to see the other side too. Unless you do that you will never succeed. It is for you to pick the hole, to find out the lacunae and crack the case in your favour. After arranging the facts, you must draw inferences from them and then you must so manipulate them that they help your case to a great extent, bearing in mind that the strength of advocacy lies in the adaptation of your materials of the desired end. Cross examination cannot be reduced to a single formula or a mass of formulas. There is no particular magnetic key to become successful cross examiner. It is not something to be learned, it is something to be acquired.
