Driving Historic Route 66 in New Mexico on the post-1937 Albuquerque alignment, we take our RV from the Albuquerque loop all the way to the Arizona state line. This Route 66 road trip is packed with roadside Americana: Russell’s Truck & Travel Center and its classic car museum, San Jon’s giant flip-flop, abandoned Route 66 ruins like Cedar Hill Grocery and Budville Trading Company, and a stop in Laguna Pueblo to see the historic San José de la Laguna Mission Church.

Next we roll west on Route 66 through Albuquerque, including the famous intersection where the Santa Fe alignment and Albuquerque alignment meet at 4th & Central, plus downtown icons like the Kimo Theatre area and the Dog House chili dog stop. From there it’s on to the Rio Puerco Bridge, the Route 66 Casino, Grants’ neon drive-thru Route 66 sign, the Continental Divide, and an overnight at Red Rock Park.

Finally we arrive in Gallup, New Mexico, tour the legendary El Rancho Hotel (1936), explore murals and the El Morro Theatre, and then cross into Arizona to continue the Mother Road adventure.
