This is the aikido throw kotegaeshi, applied against several different grip and strike attacks. I show it both slow and fast - mainly gotai (from a static starting point), but also some jutai (moving as the attack approaches) when going faster. In most cases, there is little difference between gotai and jutai versions of kotegaeshi, except the timing.

Kotegaeshi is a very popular technique in aikido as well as jujutsu and other budo. It is not as easy as it may seem. More than the twisting of the attacker's wrist, the rhythm of the throw is decisive of its success.

It's quite common with high forward falling (mae ukemi) on kotegaeshi, but the less fancy backwards fall (ushiro ukemi) has its advantages as well, such as a better control of the attacker. I like to do kotegaeshi so that the attacker can choose to do or not do the high fall, according to circumstance and ability.

At the end of the video there is also some kaeshiwaza (counter techniques) on kotegaeshi.
