The police officers involved in Friday's accident have been debarred from driving police vehicles until the outcome of a full investigation into the matter is determined.

On Friday this CCTV footage shared via social media shows the collision. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in a media release said the police vehicle involved was being driven at a speed of 140 Kilometres per hour on the Uriah Butler Highway and 89 Kilometres per hour on a secondary road just prior to impact.

In addition, the officers were not going to respond to any distress call.

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has advised that all police vehciles on patrol are monitored by the Operations Command Centre through GPS tracking technology.

He said the GPS tracking system allows the Command Centre to monitor the speed of each vehicle, every 10 seconds. And if any vehicle is going over the speed limit and is not responding to a distress call, then those officers would be made to account for their actions.
