Steps:
1. Use Picasa to create a logo to use in the custom header along with text. You can see my other video on creating logos for a demonstation. Briefly, to create the logo choose a background image in Picasa by clicking on it, click to hold it in the tray at the lower left area of the screen, click on Create, click on Create picture collage and in the settings box that opens up you'll see where you can choose dimensions for the shape of the logo, whether it is square like a CD or rectangular, how wide and so on. Use the handles on the picture as it floats on the shape to resize it to fit the shape. Then click to Create Collage. Now you have a square or rectangular logo. Often people use the name of the website, an abbreviation or the initials against a white or colorful background. The text can be white or colorful as you can see from the text choices available. Now you are ready to create the header that will have the logo in it.
2. Click to select your new logo, then click the green button at the bottom of Picasa to save it in the "holding tray" which is simply the area in the lower left.
3. Once again click Create in the menu above, then click Create Collage from Pictures in the menu that opens.
4. Now use the settings box to create a new collage size that is customized for the header size on your site. If you want a wide header or a narrow header here is where you can choose the size.
5. You'll see the logo floating on the header shape you have chosen. Use the handles to resize it. Then click to Create Collage.
6. You'll be sent back to the library on Picasa and you can double click on your new logo on the header shape so the edting tools will open up.
7. Click on the icon for editing Text. Chooose the type style, color, size and so on. Then type anywhere on the blank header where you want to add text. You can drag it to move it and use the handles to pull and resize it.
8. When you're satisfied with it click to Save it to your Desktkop.
9. Now go to your Wordpress site to the dashboard, go to Appearance, then Header, then click on Browse.
10. Browse to the desktop to get the header, click to open, then click Upload on the Header page next to the Browse button.
11. When it uploads there will be a cut tool type dotted line around part of it. You need to drag down and to the right to cover all of your header so it will all show. Otherwise part of it will be cut off.
12. Now Click Save at the bottom of the page and your new header will appear on the front end of the website.
