Cold-Climate Conversion: Pink Foam Boards for insulation

We used Foamular NGX (Next Generation XPS) foam boards from Owens Corning to insulate the box of our Ambulander. Here are the steps for the first part of our insulation process.

Measure and Cut:
Begin by measuring the spaces between the structural beams.
Cut the 2-inch Foamular NGX pink foam boards to fit precisely between the beams.

Adhesive Application:
Choose a high-quality spray foam adhesive (Tytan or Sika) suitable for cold climates.
Apply the adhesive to the aluminum walls.
Press the pink foam boards against the walls, remove then and press again firmly, ensuring excellent adhesion.

Flush and Trim:
After securing the foam boards, some edges may protrude slightly.
Use a router bit to shave off any excess foam (we made a jig for the router to make thing easier).
Aim for a flush surface with the beams to maintain a clean finish.

We achieve a R10 insulation value with the Foamular NGX pink foam boards.
This will keep the interior warm and comfortable even during frigid northern Canadian winters 🚐❄️, and hotter climate too!
