In youth, wealth often appears as a promise — a shining reward that seems capable of solving every problem. The pursuit begins innocently: earning more to feel secure, respected, admired. Over time, however, this pursuit quietly transforms into a chase that never truly ends. Each financial milestone brings a brief sense of victory, quickly replaced by the hunger for the next level. More income, more possessions, more status — yet always more emptiness.

Money, by its nature, is neutral. It amplifies what already exists. When life lacks purpose, money does not fill that void — it only makes the silence louder. In my prime years, success was measured by numbers on paper, properties owned, and the approval of others who seemed impressed by outward achievements. I mistook admiration for connection and transactions for relationships. Looking back now, the irony is undeniable: while building wealth, I slowly dismantled the very things that give life meaning.

The pursuit of money often demands invisible sacrifices. Time is the first currency exchanged. Long hours replace shared meals. Business trips replace birthdays. Ambition replaces presence. These sacrifices seem temporary in the moment, justified by future comfort. But life does not pause while wealth accumulates. Children grow, friendships fade, and moments pass without asking permission. One day, the bank account is full — and the room is empty.

What I failed to understand for decades is that money is a tool, not a compass. It can support a meaningful life, but it cannot define one. When wealth becomes the measure of worth, the soul quietly starves. At 92, the memories that remain are not of profits or deals, but of moments missed. The greatest lesson learned too late is this: money can buy comfort, but it can never buy time, love, or peace of mind.
