Kate Avoles is a member of the Bakke Norman, S.C. trial and litigation team, representing clients in northwestern Wisconsin. Kate was admitted to practice law in 2007 and concentrates in family law, criminal defense and assisting in municipal litigation, including advising municipalities on prosecution of ordinance violations.

She received her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was the recipient of the 2012 Martin Hanson Advocates Prize by the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for successful defense at trial charging criminal homicide.

Kate was elected in 2013 as the St. Croix County Bar representative to the Criminal Justice Collaborating Council, is an officer with the St. Croix Valley Bar Association and regularly volunteers her time at the free legal clinics in her community and surrounding counties.

Jeff Cormell, Law Clerk
Bakke Norman, S.C.

Jeff is the law clerk at Bakke Norman law offices. His attention to detail and research skills were honed while attending law school at William Mitchell College of Law. During law school, Jeff served on a national student organization’s board, competed in a national moot court competition and served as a judicial clerk.

He also was very active in several clinics that drafted code for different Native American tribes. At the firm, Jeff assists the attorneys in research and document preparation. He enjoys business law, litigation, and municipal law.

Jeff lives with his wife and daughter in New Richmond. He received a Master’s degree in History from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Eau Claire is also where he received a double baccalaureate in History and American Indian Studies. He is also a United States Army veteran, and a classically trained chef.
