Sean O'Malley eyes 'potential matchup' with Dominick Cruz at UFC 264

Sean O'Malley thinks that a fight with Dominick Cruz would make sense as the UFC 264 co-main event on July 10.

“I heard Dominick Cruz texted Chael Sonnen saying he wanted that fight,” O’Malley said recently (via bjpenn.com). “So, I don’t know if Chael got a prank text for a fake Dom or if that’s real. That’s a potential matchup.”

“I know Dustin Poirier tweeted the other day, July 10,” continued O’Malley referring to the rumored date of Poirier’s trilogy fight with Conor McGregor. “So I think I’m a pretty good co-main event type dude. Dustin vs. Conor, Suga vs. Dominick, I don’t know, that makes sense, that might be it. July, we’ll see. I definitely want to get in there a couple more times this year.”

It was later revealed that Dominick Cruz didn't even text Chael Sonnen and this was just a fabricated story. Yet, it has sparked interest in the both from both fighters and potentially the promotion, too.

O'Malley is fresh off a knockout win against Thomas Almeida at UFC 260 on March 27. Dominick Cruz defeated Casey Kenney at UFC 259 earlier in March.
