BIOL201 Ch7.1 | Energy in Living Systems

Описание к видео BIOL201 Ch7.1 | Energy in Living Systems

Biology 201 Lecture Video Covering Chapter 7.1 of OpenStax Biology Summary:
Cellular respiration involves several biochemical pathways, each removing small amounts of energy from glucose.

Redox reactions involve the transfer of electrons from one substance to another
Loss of Electrons = Oxidation
Gain of Electrons = Reduction

Electrons can be thought of as energy

There are several high energy electron carriers used by cells including NADH, FADH2, NADPH

ATP stores free energy in its phosphate bonds

Phosphorylation is the addition of a phosphate to a substance
Substrate level phosphorylation - enzyme directly takes a phosphate from one substance and adds to ADP to form ATP

Oxidative phosphorylation – ATP produced using energy from a hydrogen ion gradient and ATP synthase enzyme
