In Mega Man X for the Super Nintendo, there's an odd and useless glitch that can occur during the opening stage where the scripted, unwinnable battle against Vile begins after X dies.

It's not too hard to pull off, either! Here's what you do:

When the airship descends over the ruined highway in the introductory stage, normally you need to destroy three of the robot gun-car enemies (called Road Attackers) in order to trigger the ensuing boss battle against Vile in his Ride Armor. This boss battle is unwinnable, and there is typically some dialogue and an event after the fight.

However, if you can manage to take mortal damage and explode on the same frame that you destroy the third car-bot to trigger the boss fight, Vile will still appear from the airship and attempt to fight Mega Man X even though X is nowhere to be found (because he died)!

Vile will immediately start shooting his stun beam shots as normal, then he will walk over to grab X in his Ride Armor arms, and he will still say his line about "You worthless piece of scrap metal..." But he will grab nothing in his arm, and then the game will softlock.

A pretty neat and useless glitch, if you ask me!
