“London Is Not A British Or Much Less An English City Anymore!”

Former London Assembly Member Peter Whittle used to call London his home, but he no longer does.

Peter believes that London’s fast-changing demographics have changed the city’s cultural dynamics and have mitigated its “communal memory”.

According to Migration Observatory statistics, London has the largest number of migrants among all regions of the UK, 3,346,000 – or 37% of the UK's total foreign-born population.

“If you have that level of change, it breaks the continuity of a city,” Peter tells TalkTV’s Mike Graham.

Mike agrees, saying: “The rest of the country isn’t quite the same… the change is much less noticeable” outside London.

Peter: “The character and the sense of London as a unique place has gone. It has become much more fragmented now.”
