Driving instructions
Rere Rockslide is roughly a 3-hours’ drive away from Napier or 45-minutes from Gisborne. The road surface is always sealed.
From Gisborne take SH-35 westbound, turn right onto Wharekopae Rd and follow it for 30-minutes until you see Rere Falls car park (on your left). Continue on to the main road for 2 more km until you reach Rockslide car park (on your right). There are picnic tables and toilets available there.
From the parking walk downhill for 1 minutes to reach the top of the rockslide. From here, either slide down on a boogie board/inflatable mattress/inner tube or continue on to walk downhill for 5 minutes to reach the slide' base. Return via the same track. The rock is always slippery, so take extra care!
This place is full of fun for people of all ages. Just don’t forget a towel and something like a piece of cardboard (any sort of replacement would be fine). Be careful and supervise the children!
Among the locals and tourists, it’s a very popular place, hence, if you wish to take photos without people, then we would recommend arriving there early morning or late evening and preferable in the wintertime. However, the best photos are taken when there are people sliding down the rock.
Also, don’t forget to visit charming Rere Falls on the way to/from the rockslide.
