Описание к видео Safeguarding and ensuring EDI in research for International development

#ODAFunding
In the final of three events on Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding, Universities UK International (UUKi) and the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will explore different perspectives on how to ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in research for international development.

In part one, Sheila Mburu, Research and Policy Officer at the UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR), will outline why international development research needs its own approach to safeguarding, as well as the challenges involved in anticipating, preventing, and addressing harm in research for international development. Dr Baljinder Bains, Policy Manger at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), will then discuss UKRI’s Preventing Harm (Safeguarding) in Research Innovation policy, summarising some of the steps used to prevent and address harm occurring to individuals that are employed on, participate in, or otherwise come into contact with, research and innovation activities funded by UKRI. Baljinder will then be joined by Jacqui Williams, Head of GCRF Programmes at UKRI, for a Q&A.

In part two, Dr Fiona Bartels-Ellis OBE (Global Head Equality, Diversity and Inclusion), Dr Stephanie Renforth (Senior Consultant, Higher Education and Science), and Cathy Stroemer (Consultant, Higher Education and Science) from the British Council will discuss their approach to EDI and address what EDI means in the context of research for international development. They will also outline the EDI requirements for Newton Fund applicants more specifically, including providing guidance on how to write a gender equality statement.

This webinar was recorded on 02 December 2020 and was chaired by Professor Anja Lowit, Deputy Associate Principal for Research, University of Strathclyde.
