DJ Tutorial | Slip Mode | CDJs & Rekordbox

Описание к видео DJ Tutorial | Slip Mode | CDJs & Rekordbox

In this tutorial, Pyramind instructor Shawn Mercado (aka M3RC) goes over triggering hot cues in Slip Mode. Slip Mode is a feature that allows you scratch, loop, or trigger cues during playback while preserving the original playback of the track. This way, once you’re done triggering your cue etc., the track will continue to play as if you hadn't manipulated it at all.

First, Shawn sets his hot cues in rekordbox. He discusses the particular things he looks for in a track when setting his cue points - percussion hits, vocal hits, etc. After setting his hot cues, he exports the playlist to his flash drive.

He plugs his flash drive into our Pioneer nexus CDJ-2000s and sets the input to USB. After navigating to the playlist he created and loading up the track, he holds the record/call button down - causing the hot cues to flash. To enable triggering of these hot cues, simply press on each of the respective buttons (A, B, or C).

First, he demonstrates what happens when you trigger hot cues without Slip Mode. In this case, the song will continue playing from the point of the hot cue. If you have a hot cue from the intro of the song, and the playhead is in another section, triggering that hot cue will bring the playhead back to the intro. Although this can sometimes be useful for transitions, engaging Slip Mode keeps your timing nice and neat, enabling you to have more freedom when looping, scratching, or triggering hot cues.

When you first engage Slip Mode, you’ll notice you have some looping options. Shawn demonstrates how to use the needle search touch strip to trigger loops, as well as how to change the loop timing. He also goes over how to trigger loops using the manual looping buttons on the CDJ.

After demonstrating triggering hot cues without Slip Mode one last time, he goes over how to set your hot cues live using CDJs. By pressing the record/call button, you can enable record mode - allowing you to set hot cues simply by triggering one of the buttons (A, B, or C). This is a must watch tutorial for up and coming DJs looking for ways to get more creative with their sets.
