Today I’m creating a beautiful gel print image transfer and turning it into a finished mixed media collage on canvas. We begin on the gel plate, where I pull a soft, layered image transfer that sets the tone for the entire piece.

There’s something magical about that moment when the image lifts off the plate—it’s like uncovering a hidden story. Once the print is ready, I move to the canvas and begin building up the composition with my own hand-painted and hand-dyed tissue papers.
The delicate layers add colour, movement, and texture, each one chosen intuitively to complement the mood of the transfer. The contrast between the transferred image and the soft, organic qualities of the tissue creates a beautiful visual harmony.
This is where gel printing and collage come together, where structure meets spontaneity. Every element has its place, and yet there’s room for surprise along the way. I love how this piece came together—gentle, expressive, and full of texture.
