Rostec, the Russian state corporation, recently delivered a new batch of Pantsir-S air defense systems ahead of schedule as part of the 2024 State Defense Order. This timely delivery is part of Russia’s ongoing effort to bolster its air defense capabilities amidst increasing threats. According to Bekhan Ozdoev, Rostec’s industrial director, the Pantsir-S system is one of the most efficient air defense platforms, capable of neutralizing low-signature threats like advanced Western cruise missiles and enemy aircraft. The Pantsir-S combines missile and gun technologies, making it highly versatile against various aerial threats, including drones and ballistic missiles such as ATACMS and Storm Shadow. The latest version, revealed at the ARMY 2024 exhibition, features multiple launch canisters and can operate in stationary or mobile modes, offering comprehensive defense for critical sites. With a missile range of up to 20,000 meters and gun effectiveness from 200 to 4,000 meters, the Pantsir-S system demonstrates a significant upgrade in Russia’s defensive strategies, especially amid ongoing conflicts.
