Categorizing your search queries to improve findability.

This talk is a case study of how we are developing a repeatable, cookie-cutter process for clustering and categorizing search queries at Harvard Business School (HBS). Learn how this process and subsequent analysis is helping us improve search functionality on HBS websites and Intranet sites. The presentation will cover the steps we followed, starting with developing a standard set of facets used to identify the types of concepts in our search query logs, categorizing the queries by grouping/clustering similar queries together, identifying applicable facets for each cluster, and evaluating the quality of the search results for the top clusters. You will hear about the benefits derived from this work, such as giving us data to populate auto-suggest, enhance search engine synonyms/thesaurus, and providing valuable data for developing recommendations for SERP (Search Engine Result Page) design improvements. Most importantly, you will be able to take the ideas from this talk and start using them on your own sites right away.
