So, you want a patchbay, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll change your mind as soon as you look at the prices. This video aims to teach how you can find and modify a used patchbay for a fraction of the price of a new one, and have a fun project to work on while you’re at it.

Some additional info:

Patchbays come in many types. In this video alone, we see the typical TT-style as well as an XLR version, but you can easily find bays for other applications, like RJ45s (Ethernet) for networking and others. While you generally won't see normalled patchbays for anything other than audio applications, there is nothing special about an audio signal that would prevent it from being transmitted through a different type of bay if you so desire. If the price is right, it may be worth it for you.

TT patch cables are also not cheap! I found mine for a very reasonable price from Penn Elcom:
