It looks as though that this nifty little ladder climb skip in Glimmer, the first level of Ripto's Rage, has had some design changes since its discovery in the PS1 original.

The fly power-up bar will deplete more rapidly you as your distance away from the gate increases, and entering certain areas will immediately disable the power-up regardless of remaining fuel/time. This suggests that any area that you might be able reach the in power-up's standard duration of time is not necessarily meant to be accessible and has been attempted to be tailored as such.

This makes sense since the second fly gate area is meant to be accessed, later, after obtaining the ladder climb skill. However, despite this change, it is still possible to to access the second fly gate by using the first one available.

It is MUCH more difficult than I recall in the original, but with a little practice on charging a tight path and a bit of gliding just barely after the fly power-up is exhausted will get you just barely there!

Glimmer is still totally possible to 100% this level on the first run through, speedrunners rejoice!
