Many young adults today are facing unprecedented financial challenges due to the economy, job market, student debt, and rising cost of living. More 20-somethings are choosing to live with family members or multiple roommates to save money while they work, often working multiple jobs to stay on track with their money goals. It's even harder for creatives, who desperately seek meaningful work that lights them up every day, and/or neurodivergent individuals, who have niche passions and struggle to stay committed to work that doesn't align with them.
I am someone who experiences all three of these realities, and I am finally sharing my experience being self-employed for half a year. What I've done might look like nothing, but to me, it's everything. It's many, many steps in the right direction after years of negative thinking and sabotage. I understand it is a privileged position to live with my parents and "figure things out," having a financial cushion until I can stand firmly on my own two feet. And I admit, I wasted a lot of time during the pandemic due to mental health struggles, the loss of my friend to suicide, and self-sabotaging patterns like abusive relationships. I am doing the grunt work now that I really should've done 5 years ago--building my reality from the ground up--but it's never too late to get your sh*t together.
It is possible. You don't have to work a 9-5 job that you hate just to survive in this world. You can gradually build your desired reality and manifest any change you want in your life, but it takes time, focus, effort, unlearning, and learning from your failures. I'm on my journey--I'm nowhere near having "made it," but I wanted to share the steps I've been taking to hopefully inspire someone who is where I was a year ago: fantasizing about something that feels so far out of reach. Use your creative mind, dream beyond your current circumstances, and make it happen! It's closer than you think!
