This video isn’t about how to get onto Spotify. I made a video about that a long time ago. All the information I’m going to be providing today is from experience. In no way shape or form am I a Spotify expert / guru. I currently have 1,366 consistent monthly listeners (emphasis on the word consistent). To the average consumer, Spotify is a platform for listening to the music you love, while discovering new talent in the process. To the artist, Spotify is another social media platform. It essentially works the same as any other social media platform. People can follow your profile and “like” your songs which also results in them adding it to their library. As an artist, you can post things to your profile for your followers to see like an Artist Pick, Artist Playlists, and a Spotify canvas that plays as a video behind your songs. There’s also an algorithm involved that pushes your content (in this case, music) to new people. From my understanding this algorithm involves basically everything that has to do with your music.

How long do people listen to your music for?
Do they save your music to their library?
How many people add it to one of their playlists?
Are the people listening to your music coming from an external platform?
Are those people sharing your music?

All these factors contribute to whether or not Spotify classifies your song as being a “good song”. If it is, the Spotify algorithm will push it to more people to be discovered by new ears.
