Madhya Pradesh is translocating herbivores like chital (spotted deer) to support tiger conservation by ensuring sufficient prey in newly developed tiger reserves. A strategy has been implemented to move surplus chital from areas with abundant populations to places where their numbers had dwindled. So far, over 2,250 chital have been relocated to various tiger reserves, including Bandhavgarh, Sanjay, and Kuno National Park, with more expected to follow. This effort aims to establish sustainable prey populations, facilitating the growth of tiger reserves and ensuring long-term conservation success.
