The Kralingse Bos is a wooded park that surrounds the Kralingse Park lake. The park is popular with joggers and inline skaters. On and around the lake, you can sail, swim, or just relax in the sun beside your barbecue.

Kralingse Bos is a wood encircling a large lake: Kralingse Plas. To the north of the lake can be seen two charming mills. One of them, De Ster, is an old spice mill dating from 1740.

The park of Kralingen is the largest citypark of Rotterdam and is situated around a lake (Kralingse Plas). In the spring and summer people flock in the park to barbecue, swim or for a picknick. At restaurant The Tuinen you can enjoy food and wine overviewing the lake and the city skyline. The old trees near the lake truly show the beauty of nature attracting a wide range of birds and animals. The park is also and important area for dragonflies and bats.

The Kralingse Bos and Kralingse Plas represent Rotterdam’s best recreational area. Come rain or shine, the Kralingse Bos forest draws sports enthusiasts year round. It is the perfect place for running, cycling, horse-riding, golf, rowing and sailing. On sunny days, the park attracts a lot of families who visit the playground, the Dutch-style petting farm, and pancake restaurant. Both forest and lake are popular destinations in summer. Enjoy a barbecue with friends and family, go for a swim, or work on that suntan on the sandy beach!

Veelzijdig bos met strandbad, voor rust en recreatie

Barbecueën bij het strandbad, naar kinderboerderij De Kraal, een rondje rennen om plas: er is geen Rotterdammer die niet geniet van het Kralingse Bos. Het is een veelzijdig recreatiegebied dat in 2007 de prijs voor beste buitenruimte van Nederland kreeg.

Rust&stilte
De buitenste ring is bosrijk en rustig. In het gebied tussen de Manege Kralingen en de golfbaan vindt je stille paden onder hoge oude bomen. Ook tussen het hertenkamp en de kinderboerderij kom je maar weinig mensen tegen. Hier hoor je de specht hameren en rennen de fazanten door het struikgewas. Houd je van romantiek? Maak dan eens een wandeling in de schemering over de bruggen richting de molens De Lelie en De Ster. Dit zijn de enige nog werkende snuiftabak- en specerijmolen in Nederland.

Met de kids
Kinderen kunnen vrijuit spelen en ravotten langs het strandbad en bij een rondje om de kinderboerderij, er is een kabelbaan, een natuurspeeltuin, klauterstenen en klimbomen. De klauterstenen zijn afkomstig van de Delfse poort, een stadsport die in de 2de wereldoorlog vernietigd raakte. Kinderboerderij De Kraal is ook met een trekpondje bereikbaar.

Echte natuur
Achter het strandbad ligt de heemtuin. Dit eiland langs het water heeft een spannend steigerpad over een moeras en metershoge varens. Langs de oever vist hier de ijsvogel, je herkent hem aan zijn velblauwe veren.
Achter de Heemtuin liggen de vistrappen tussen hoge rietstengels. Vanaf de bruggen zie je duizenden glinsterende vissenlijfjes zwemmen. Dit is de kraamkamer voor jonge vissen die via de heemtuin en de worteleilanden de plas in zwemmen.

Achter de vistrappen ligt de insectenvallei, een drassig en schraal gebied dat ideaal is voor amfibieën en insecten.
