Gloucester Tops is one of those places that has been a saved pin in my google maps for years but for one reason or another we have put it off. Gloucester tops is not far from the town of Gloucester NSW, or a little over a 2hour drive from Newcastle.
Gloucester Tops is part of the Barrington Tops and also it is a World Heritage Area being part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.

Gloucester River campground, right alongside the River is where we set up base. The campground is mainly a large grassy area, whilst it’s on a gentle slope there are plenty of flat areas to set up on. If you are looking for something a little more private there are also a hand full of individual bush sites on the end.

There are drop toilets, BBQs and plenty of raised fire pits in the area. There are a few information boards around the campground with a lot about the history of the area. Camping fees are reasonable being NSW national parks, at around $12 an adult and $6 a child.

Gloucester River Campground is a quiet and family orientated area. With the main focus of the area being bush walking. It is quite a tranquil place with the sounds of nature and the river trickling alongside the campground.
When in the area make sure to take the drive up the mountain, you can do it in a 2wd weather depending. At the top you will find a heap of bush walks and the Gloucester River as well.

We checked out the Gloucester Falls Walk the loop took around 40 minutes to complete. This walk takes you to two look outs and alongside the waterfalls where it’s possible to access the river and swim if you desire. Unfortunately it was 12 degrees when we were here.

If you’re looking for a quite back to nature experience this is the place for you.
